Aylsham FC U13 v North Walsham Town U13, Greens Road

For their first away trip of the season Aylsham FC U13 made the short journey to face North Walsham Town FC U13 in the Norfolk Combined Youth Football League U13 Premiership at Greens Road this morning (Sunday 30th September).

Aylsham kicked off and looked to pass the ball on the ground and keep possession. The first chance fell to the visitors as Ollie cleared well with Jaiden bringing the ball under control and feeding it to Freddy who in turn found Alfie in space. Alfie showed his marker a clean pair of heels as he accelerated forward, striking a firm shot that was bravely blocked with another great piece of defending preventing Freddy dispatching the rebound. The opening exchanges were being played at a frantic pace with both sides cancelling each other out trying to get a foothold in the game.

In the 7th minute Aylsham had another sight of goal as Jude and Josh combined to move the ball to Alfie on the left who picked out Freddy on the edge of the area but, after flicking the ball up, he saw his left-footed volley well saved. A minute later a quick throw from Bailey set Mitchy off on a forward run and he looked up to spot Brad in space, picking him out with an accurate pass. Brad was first to it but the North Walsham keeper came off his line to bravely block the effort and cling onto the loose ball at the second attempt.

It was a game of few opportunities, Bailey having to deal with a couple of balls over the top and a break forward by Brad resulting in a shot that dropped just over the bar. Aylsham made their first change with Denver coming on for Jaiden who had taken a knock. North Walsham created themselves a chance after a good move but the final shot was screwed wide from the right side of the area.

Just as it looked to be goalless at the break Aylsham were awarded a penalty with two minutes of the half remaining. Alfie burst forward to try to get on the end of a Freddy centre but was nudged to the ground just as he was about to shoot. Alfie dusted himself off to place a firm left-footed effort past the home keeper into the corner of the net. After a very even first period Aylsham were 1-0 to the good.

North Walsham kicked off the second half with Aylsham making another change, Jack coming on for Brad. The visitors almost doubled their lead three minutes after the break following a flowing move. Tyler put in a strong challenge in the left back position finding Jude in space who played it to Freddy, flicking it onto Alfie. The striker drove forward before setting Freddy away who drew the keeper but was forced wide. Freddy showed strength and vision to lay the ball back to Jude, putting in a first-time cross that Alfie struck with power but a fantastic brave diving save kept it out. Josh kept the move alive, retrieving the loose ball before beating two players on his way into the box. Josh’s cross-shot was parried into Alfie’s path but his snap-shot struck the post and was cleared.

Undeterred, Aylsham did extend their advantage as the game entered the 41st minute. Freddy took a quick throw-in, finding Josh just inside the visitor’s half, and his first touch flicked the ball over his marker’s head. A neat touch and pass set Alfie driving forward and he turned his marker inside and out before lifting a glorious shot from midway inside the North Walsham half up and over the keeper into the corner of the net for his and Aylsham’s second goal.

Ronnie came on for his Aylsham debut, replacing Freddy on the right. The visitors were in the ascendency at this stage and Jack pressed to force a hurried clearance at the back. Jack and Jude combined well to create an opportunity for Denver to shoot from the edge of the area with the outside of his right foot but he saw his effort acrobatically tipped round the post. Josh’s initial corner was cleared but Tyler found Josh again on the left who whipped in a dangerous delivery that Jude headed agonisingly wide.

North Walsham were looking to get the ball forward quickly and Mitchy and Ollie rose well to clear with defensive headers in quick succession as the home side looked to get back into the game. There was another goal in the 46th minute as the home team put together a nice passage of play down their right but a perfectly timed tackle by Tyler brought the move to an end. Immediately, Tyler picked out Jack on the Aylsham left and he cut inside and moved the ball quickly to Jude in the centre of midfield. Josh moved into space and his fellow midfielder picked him out, controlling the ball well before spotting Ronnie’s run down the right. Josh’s through-ball was perfectly weighted, bisecting two defenders, and Ronnie was through on goal, sprinting clear of the defence before calmly striking the ball past the keeper and into the net to finish off a devastating move making it 3-0 to Aylsham.

In the 53rd minute Aylsham scored their 4th goal after a superb six man move. Adam was first to a clearance, controlling well before finding Jude in a pocket of space. Jude combined well first with Josh and then Ronnie down the right. Ronnie played the ball inside to Josh who, with his route to goal blocked, laid it back to Adam spotting a gap and advancing forward, playing a slick one-two with Denver on the edge of the area. Adam picked out Alfie in the box with an accurate pass and the striker took a touch to steady himself before lashing home to complete his hat-trick and give his side a 4-0 advantage.

Aylsham made another change with Jaiden returning to give Jude a breather. Alfie went in search of more goals with an effort from outside the box which was deflected just over the bar. Alfie took the corner himself and curled in a centre that Denver nodded just over the bar under pressure. Moments later a perfectly timed challenge from Denver won the ball back in midfield and Jack was straight onto it, angling a perfect pass into Alfie’s path who went round the keeper but saw his shot blocked on the line by a covering defender who cleared the danger.
