Aylsham FC U12 v Wymondham Town U12, Youngs Park

On an overcast morning, Aylsham FC U12 hosted Wymondham Town U12 at Youngs Park in the Norfolk Combined Youth Football League Premiership today (Sunday 25th March 2018).

Aylsham kicked off and looked to move the ball around quickly. The home side dominated possession in the early exchanges with Wymondham getting players behind the ball to keep them at bay. In the 4th minute Aylsham created their first opportunity after Jude broke up play finding Ollie on the right who moved it to Alfie in turn laying it back to Jude. The Aylsham captain hit a beautiful through-ball into the path of Mitchy who outpaced his defender before shooting narrowly wide of the far post. From the goal kick Denver won the header but the keeper came out quickly to take the ball off Alfie’s toe as he looked to poke it home.

Aylsham went even closer two minutes later after a long throw by Mitchy was only half cleared. Josh took a touch on the edge of the box before bending a shot that the keeper touched onto the bar before claiming the rebound. The opening goal wasn’t far away as Aylsham took the lead in the 7th minute after a run from halfway inside the home side’s half by Mitchy led to a foul on the edge of the area. Mitchy swung the free kick into a dangerous area where an unfortunate Wymondham defender could only divert the ball past his own keeper into the net.

Aylsham continued to take the game to Wymondham and in the 10th minute a long ball from Ollie set Alfie away but his left footed shot flew just wide. Alfie didn’t have to wait too long for his next opportunity as he doubled the home side’s advantage in the 11th minute. The move began with Ollie breaking up a promising Wymondham move before finding Jude in space who showed great vision to pick out Mitchy’s run down the left flank. The cross was fizzed in and the keeper did well to push it away where Josh reacted quickest to shoot. The effort was well blocked on the line but the ball rebounded to Alfie who controlled with his right foot before poking home with his left from inside the six yard box.

Freddy and Ollie were called into action as Wymondham looked to get back into the game, both putting in strong challenges but the second ball fell to an onrushing visiting striker whose shot for goal was brilliantly blocked by Adam to concede a corner. From this Jude headed clear and Josh completed the clearance. An end to end move almost gave Aylsham their third goal after great feet from Loz skilfully beat a Wymondham striker before picking out Adam who in turn sent Mitchy away down the left. Mitchy’s cross just ran away from Alfie with the keeper bravely hacking it clear out to Denver who’s centre just evaded Mitchy at the back post.

Aylsham’s third goal came in the 15th minute after good work from Ollie and Adam moved the ball to Mitchy who flicked it round the corner into Josh in the centre of the pitch. Josh spotted Denver’s run down the right and picked him out with a great pass and although a Wymondham defender did well to halt Denver’s progress could only clear the ball to Josh. His perfectly timed through-ball sprung the offside trap and Alfie was onto it in a flash to place the ball left footed past the diving keeper for 3-0 Aylsham.

Mitchy and Adam made way for Jack and Charlie to enter the fray and Aylsham continued on the offensive. A long throw by Charlie couldn’t be cleared by the Wymondham defence and Alfie was onto it in a flash, unlucky to see his left footed drive rebound off the foot of the post and behind off the keeper. Freddy delivered a dangerous corner that both Alfie and Jack threw themselves at to try and bundle into the net but a brilliant save from the keeper clawed the ball off the line and a Wymondham defender booted it clear. Aylsham kept the pressure on as Ollie’s throw found Josh who hooked the ball over where Denver put it into the side netting.

Ollie and Josh linked up well before setting Jack away down the left and from the edge of the area he looked to lob the keeper but his effort dropped just over the bar. In the 23rd minute Aylsham created another chance with Josh sending Denver clear but the keeper saved brilliantly with his feet. The home side were camped in the visitor’s half with Ollie beating two men before putting in a wicked low cross that the keeper did well to get a touch, on diverting it away from Alfie. Jack reacted quickest to flick the ball back to Alfie and his clever back-heel was brilliantly saved again by the busy Wymondham goalkeeper.

The Wymondham goal was leading a charmed life as Alfie and Josh combined well to find Jack in space on the left. Jack beat his defender before cutting back inside to curl a shot past the keeper but was unfortunate to see it hit the far post as Aylsham looked to extend their lead. Charlie burst forward beating his man before finding Josh then on to Jack who lifted the ball over the defence for Alfie to run onto, while he hit the ball powerfully, the keeper was equal to it to pull off a stunning diving save.

As halftime approached Aylsham fashioned another opportunity as Charlie found Ollie in the box after a corner was cleared. Ollie expertly turned his man to create enough space to get his shot away but the keeper held well. In the last action of the half Jude played a lovely through-ball that Alfie struck well but the keeper pulled off another excellent save. The whistle blew to signal the end of a half dominated by Aylsham with the hosts leading 3-0.

Wymondham kicked off the second half with Tyler replacing Denver down the right. In the 31st minute a long ball from Ollie pierced the visitor’s defence and Alfie sprinted clear but from just inside the area saw his shot well saved by the goalkeeper as his quest for his hat-trick continued. Alfie turned provider two minutes later, playing in Tyler and his shot flashed across the keeper but inches wide of the far post via a slight deflection.

In the 36th minute Aylsham furthered their advantage and what a goal it was! After another great save by the Wymondham keeper the ball was cleared but Tyler won it back feeding it back inside to Alfie who moved it quickly to Josh. A fine piece of close control and quick feet allowed Josh time and space to crash a left footed effort from well outside the area into the top corner of the net giving Aylsham their 4th goal. A minute later it was 5-0 as Josh found Ollie with a throw in from the right who picked out Alfie midway inside the Wymondham half. Alfie beat his man before burying the ball low down past the keeper from distance to complete his hat-trick.

A slick move involving Jack, Jude and Ollie moved the ball quickly from left to right with Ollie finding Alfie in space. With his route to goal blocked, Alfie squared the ball across to Charlie who showed great strength to beat two men on his way into the area before seeing his low shot well saved, winning his side a corner. Josh played it short to Freddy who advanced into the box before pulling the ball back where Alfie was on hand to finish clinically in the 39th minute for his fourth goal of the game.

Mitchy returned to the fold for Ollie coming on to the left with Jack switching flanks and it didn’t take him long to get his name on the scoresheet. In the 41st minute a deep corner from Josh was met left footed on the volley by Mitchy who had made a dangerous late run, burying the ball in the back of the net to make it 7-0 to Aylsham. Within a minute the home side furthered their advantage as Jack pressed high to force a defensive error on the right near the by-line. After controlling the hasty clearance Jack played the ball low into the area where Jude hit it first time towards goal. While the keeper made a fantastic save pushing the ball onto the post Jude reacted quickest to finish from the rebound.

Loz came off his line quickly to snuff out an opportunity for the Wymondham striker and hit a fantastic long ball for Alfie to chase, only a well timed challenge preventing a certain goal. A triple substitution followed with Ollie, Adam and Denver coming on for Josh, Jude and Alfie with Freddy moving up front and Denver dropping into the defensive three. A long throw by Charlie sent Freddy through on goal and while he struck his shot cleanly, the keeper made another great save to keep his effort out. As the game entered the last 5 minutes Aylsham had a few half chances but couldn’t quite convert any into more goals. Wymondham continued to work hard and were unlucky not to score after a low cross from the right was well struck but hit the bar with Loz reacting quickest to the rebound to start another Aylsham move. In the very last minute the ball was like a pinball in the Wymondham box as Mitchy, Freddy and Adam tried their luck. The ball was half cleared and Mitchy with a great piece of skill lifted the ball to the back post where Jack just couldn’t quite reach it to turn it home.

The referee called time to signal the end of game between two committed sides with a dominant team performance by Aylsham, winning the game 8-0, remaining five points clear at the top of the Norfolk Combined Youth Football League Premiership with three more league games to play.
